Together against bullying
School trips and group travel for young people are special experiences. They strengthen community, encourage independence and create memories for life.
But wherever young people come together closely, especially in groups, tensions also arise.And: bullying!
Shared dormitories, group dynamics and, above all, social media can create conflicts among young people in particular, or intensify existing ones. Bullying often happens out of sight – and those affected usually don’t talk about it!
As a&o educare e. V., we take responsibility. With the "stayKIND" project, we are sending a clear signal for social safety in youth accommodation, on school trips and on youth group travel.
stayKIND means:
a structured prevention concept for school trips and youth group travel in a&o Hostels.
Our goal
Preventing bullying at an early stage
- Strengthening moral courage
- Creating clear protective structures
- Increasing safety for everyone involved
Safety does not happen by chance. It needs the right attitude, rules and reliable contact persons.
Our approach
We are planning to create:
- reliable protective structures
- discreet ways of getting help in the hostel
- an anonymous digital reporting system
- trained contact persons
- clear documentation standards
- prevention activities for groups
A low-threshold digital programme is intended to help school classes and groups develop shared rules and agree on how to treat one another with respect.
All of this helps to
- strengthen moral courage
- reflect on the feeling of safety
Teachers and group leaders receive transparent feedback without any additional organisational effort.
Why this matters to us
According to studies, almost one in two young people experiences bullying. Many don’t talk about it. We want young people to feel safe in our hostels – regardless of their background, personality or social status. a&o doesn’t just sell beds! We take responsibility: for spaces in which young people grow!
Our long-term aspiration
With stayKIND, our long-term goal is to set the standard for social safety in youth accommodation, school trips and group travel! Not as a marketing promise, but as a verifiable quality feature – transparent, measurable and transferable across Europe.
We want teachers, parents and pupils to know: not only in an a&o Hostel, but wherever "stayKIND" has been implemented, safety is not an afterthought – it is part of the self-image of everyone involved in children’s and youth travel. From professional school trip or youth travel operators and programme providers through to – and above all – the accommodation.
