The "Europa Miniköche Eifel" visit a&o

In spring 2024, the "Europa Miniköche Eifel" (young chefs’ club) were guests at a&o Berlin Mitte.

The "Europa Miniköche Eifel" end-of-course trip in February was an exciting educational trip to Berlin. The children, aged 10 to 12 and accompanied by their parents and some of their siblings, enjoyed a varied and instructive trip to the German capital.

After a visit to the Reichstag building with an informative talk, followed by a conversation with the patron of the Europa-Miniköche EIFEL, Member of the Bundestag Patrick Schnieder, the participants continued their trip with a look behind the scenes of Europe’s largest hostel company.

At the a&o Hostel Berlin Mitte, there was a waffle-baking session led by "Eifel chef" Thomas Herrig. Fresh waffles were made on site in the a&o kitchen and handed out to a&o guests and staff. Yum!

On a tour of a&o Berlin Mitte with Ralf Olk, the young chefs also gained an insight into how a&o implements its extensive sustainability strategy and into the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) projects of a&o educare e. V.

1st a&o tree planting campaign at a&o Weimar

Last winter, the "1st a&o orchard planting campaign" took place at the a&o Hostel Weimar.

Why, you ask?

Because there is a wonderful traditional orchard right next to the a&o Hostel in Weimar. And it needs ... a little love and, above all, a few new fruit trees. And a&o educare e. V. took care of that!

Together with the Weimar children’s and youth centre and in cooperation with "Grüne Liga Weimar", fruit trees were planted there.

Really beautiful specimens from a regional tree nursery. They took root over the winter, grew in the spring and are now thriving, and then ... (this takes patience!) they will bear apples, pears, cherries or plums – hopefully a bumper crop (Weimar just can’t stop hosting events..) – which will then be harvested together by a&o guests and staff at the "a&o harvest festival" in late summer and turned straight into delicious juice. Using the mobile fruit press of "Grüne Liga Weimar" – what else?

That’s the plan. Mother Nature just has to play along – then it will all work out!
