General questions

Q: What is a&o educare e. V.?
A: a&o educare e. V. is the charitable organisation of a&o Hostels, founded in 2022 and officially recognised as a charity. The association develops and implements projects for education, social participation and sustainability – with the structural backing of Europe’s leading hostel operator.

Q: What is the connection to a&o Hostels?
A: a&o Hostels is the founder and an institutional member of the association. The 15 German a&o Hostel GmbHs finance the association through their annual membership fees. The association’s operational independence is guaranteed by its articles of association. The association pursues exclusively charitable purposes.

Q: Is the association really a charity?
A: Yes, fully. Its charitable status was recognised on 22 December 2023 by the Berlin tax office (Finanzamt für Körperschaften IV). The purposes set out in its articles of association are the promotion of youth welfare and of education.

Q: How is the association funded?
A: Through membership fees from the a&o companies and through donations. Donations are collected specifically for the “Alle kommen mit” support fund. All funds are used exclusively for the purposes set out in the articles of association.

Project questions

Q: Is everyonecantravel.app really free of charge?
A: Yes. The web app "everyonecantravel" can be used completely free of charge by all teachers, schools and parents. The costs are covered by a&o educare e. V. from its own funds.

Q: Who can apply for money from the "Alle kommen mit" support fund?
A: Parents/legal guardians, teachers who want to support families in need, and youth welfare organisations. Applications can be made entirely online using a simple form. More information >> here

Q: What is "stayKIND"?
A: stayKIND is the anti-bullying prevention programme of a&o educare e. V. for children’s and youth travel. The approach includes protective structures, an anonymous reporting system and prevention activities for groups.
